The Van Hessen Group offers a unique management trainee program for recently graduated university students who want to develop themselves within an international organisation.
During an intensive training period, of which a substantial part will take place abroad, the trainee gets acquainted to the product and production process. Furthermore, the trainee will get the opportunity to develop himself in various areas of management by means of an extensive training & development program. The objective of the program is to develop the trainee for a key position within the Van Hessen Group.

Why does the Van Hessen Group offer a trainee program?
To effectively fulfill a key position within the Van Hessen Group it is essential to posses extensive knowledge of our products and processes together with solid management skills. It is virtually impossible to externally recruit people who possess these knowledge and skills and therefore the Van Hessen Group chooses to internally operate a management trainee program to ensure future key management positions.
What kind of education is required to qualify for the trainee program?
In general, there is no specific kind of education required to start as a trainee within our group. The only requirement is that the education followed should be on a university- or equivalent level. Education with a focus on the industry is welcome but not required as such. The person is more important than the resume. Character traits like perseverance, drive to succeed, creativity and the motivation to develop oneself are more important than the specific education the trainee has followed.
Is work-experience a requirement to qualify for the trainee program?
The same argument applies here as for education. Some work-experience is welcome but not specifically required.
Does the trainee program involve working abroad?
A substantial part of the trainee-program will take place abroad. Parts of the trainee-program will take place in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and China. A consequence of following certain parts of the traineeship abroad is that one will be away from home for extensive periods of time (3 to 6 months).
What kind of support and guidance does the trainee obtain?
Every trainee is assigned a mentor. This mentor is an experienced employee with extensive knowledge of the products and processes. This mentor will provide guidance to the trainee during the trainee program. Furthermore the trainee will be assigned a coach who provides support and who will review the general development of the trainee. While the trainee is abroad, the trainee will be assigned a local mentor. During the program the trainee will report to his mentor.
What kinds of positions are available for the trainee after the trainee program?
The position in which the trainee eventually ends up after the trainee program is highly dependent on the development during the trainee program. The objective of the program is to develop the trainee for a key position in one of the functional areas within our group. However, development into a product specialist position is also a possibility. The five areas where the trainee can develop himself into are: purchase, logistics, quality control, production and sales. This area is determined after phase 1 (sometimes even at the start of the program), although changes in functional areas during phase 2 can occur.
